For your home to have a soothing fragrance you can add potpourri to the space. More often than not, this special fragrance is sold on the market. But in spite of the fact that it is commercially available, you can still make a potpourri of your own and there are only simple steps to making one. The best thing about making your own fragrance is being able to choose the petals which suit your taste. What Are The Recipes You Can Use For Homemade Potpourri?

Regardless of the kind of ingredients you are going to use, make sure that you follow the basic drying procedure. The duration of drying leaves and flowers which you are going to use for making potpourri usually takes 1-3 weeks. Make sure to transfer the leaves and flowers into a jar once they are completely dry.

• If you want to have an exotic blend of potpourri, you can simple take exotic blossoms such as hibiscus, myrtle and juniper berries. You also need to dry these and follow that same basic drying procedure. You also need to add cinnamon to the mixture and make sure that you combine it with Calamus root for long lasting fragrance.

• Some may also prefer lavender blend and a cup of lavender flowers and ¼ cup of chamomile flowers are all you need. You should follow the same procedure in drying the leaves. You also need to add at least 2-3 drops of lavender oil and store it in a glass jar. You can also add a bit of ground orris root for fragrance to last.

• If you prefer rose blend, you can make potpourri out of rose petals. You also need to include leaves and geranium petals. The petals have to be mixed with cinnamon sticks and cloves as well. Once you transfer the leaves and petals into the glass jar, do not forget to add 3 drops of rosemary oil and 1 drop of lavender oil. You can finish the recipe by sprinkling it with orris root powder.

• For gardenia potpourri, you can also dry gardenia petals and leaves. If you want, you can try adding small quantity of petals and leaves of other favorite flowers. After which, add at least 4-5 drops of orange essential oil and sprinkle with orris root powder.

Keep in mind that once the leaves and flowers dry, they will shrink substantially. This is why if you are going to make 1 cup of potpourri, you need to have 2 cups of flowers. You can also add spices and other fragrance if you really want your home to be soothing.
