How to Get your Home Prepared for the Festive Season

With warm colour schemes including gold, red and green it is impossible not to associate Christmas decorations with the first flushes of a romance. Even couples that have enjoyed a long term marriage will take a trip down memory lane as they release treasured baubles from the loft which remind them of their first years together.

There’s no reason why this romantic atmosphere should stop at the stairs though as this is the ideal time to give the master bedroom a makeover, making it a sensuous space for the grown-ups to enjoy but also a magical wonderland as the children bounce impatiently on the bed on Christmas morning.

Have a Holistic View of Ho Ho Ho

Downstairs you’ve probably picked a colour scheme, be it red and gold, silver and blue, brown and beige or green and cream, your colour scheme should match your personality and make you smile every time you walk into a room. No doubt you’ve chosen a table cloth, centrepieces, a wreath for the door and greenery for the bannisters and in comparison your bedroom may look quite bare. This seems a shame as many of us use our bedrooms as a haven of peace, reading a book, doing our toenails or even watching a film uninterrupted, it seems bizarre that we leave Christmas outside when the anticipation of the event stirs such excitement within us.

Festive Fabrics

A bedroom is one of the easiest and cheapest rooms to decorate for Christmas as you probably already have your personality stamped all over it. All you need to do is introduce some romantic festive elements and you’ll have a luxurious haven fit for Mrs Claus herself.

Satin bedding is an ideal way to add instant sparkle, in red, gold or silver it will bring opulence to the room while allowing you to sink into the satin bedding on an evening leaving you feeling thoroughly pampered and indulged.

Mood Lighting

Once the centrepiece of the room is taken care of with satin bedding (which will last for years after Christmas) you can concentrate on romantic lighting. Candle stick holders are wonderful decorations especially if they are made of brass or pewter and you can choose the candles to suit your scheme. If your headboard allows, you may also want to add fairy lights in either a classic or contemporary design. Some people adore the soft glow on the bed fairy lights bring so much that they often stay up all year!

Treat Yourself

As Christmas is a time for treats you should pamper yourself with your own private Christmas corner. This can include champagne, chocolates, a vase of roses (red, white or yellow according to your colour scheme) and of course a couple of champagne glasses. Then as you snuggle in bed on an evening you can enjoy your own grown up treats, sipping champagne as you slide into the satin bedding making your bedroom feel like the most luxurious hotel in the world.
