Landscaping: What's Involved?

What exactly is landscaping and what’s all involved? The formal definition in Wikipedia says it refers to any action that changes the visible attributes of an area of land. This can involve natural components such as plants and other organisms, man-made structures and products, and abstract items such as outdoor lighting and heating products.

What all living plants may your project involve? Well, for starters, there are several different varieties of trees to choose from in Houston. Trees may be beneficial to add to your design if you have a newer home on a lot that was cleared in order to build. Trees help provide much needed shade in the hot summer months and add to the overall look of your yard. You can also plant trees that bear fruit which are especially fun when in season. Flowers and ground cover are nice touches that add splashes of color to your lawn. These are just a few of many different other living organisms that you can add to your Houston gardens.

There are so many man-made structures that can be included in a landscaping project. One of the most popular structures that are everywhere are decks. In Houston, it’s a good idea to ask for a deck that will be as resistant to weather changes as possible. Although we don’t have a whole lot of snow in Houston, the humidity can rot decks that aren’t resistant to our weather changes. We also love our patios and walkways in Houston. These can be made up of several different materials including but not limited to stone, slate, gravel, granite, and brick. An outdoor structure that is very popular these days is the pergola. This item adds so much elegance to an outdoor design.

Lastly, landscaping can involve abstract items. Outdoor lighting can compliment the design of the lawn while adding functionality. For instance, when you want to entertain outdoors at night, it’s important for safety that everyone can see well. The right amount of lighting spaced carefully will achieve this and get several compliments from guests as well. Also, outdoor heating may be needed in cold winter months. In addition, mosquito control methods may be used in a Houston landscaping project. This will provide more assurance that you, your family, and any guests you have over will enjoy themselves more instead of constantly worrying about keeping mosquitos away.
