Window Shades and You

With so many window treatment options to choose from, it can be overwhelming to determine what style will work best in your space. Window shades, such as cellular, Venetian and Roman styles, are available in a wide variety of textures, colours and designs and can accommodate any design scheme or interior decor plan.

Cellular shades are a popular shade option that are not only visually enticing, but have remarkable energy efficient and eco friendly properties as well. These shades are extremely unique in that they are structured unlike any other window treatment on the market. They are spongy in texture, with honeycomb shaped pockets that act as a barrier of insulation. These are great shades for both tropical and frosty climates in that they trap in both warm and cool air that may have escaped through your widow, either by way of a faulty seal, improper casement fit, or an older home. Cellular shades not only prevent air loss in your home, resulting in a lower energy bill and higher energy efficiency, they are also an attractive option for your home decor. They are available in a multitude of colours and sizes, and they have a unique design in that they raise and lower from either the top of the window or the bottom, allowing you to block out or let in as much sunlight as you would like. They look fantastic paired with complimentary window treatments such as drapes, curtains or shutters and work in an office setting, or a relaxed environment such as your living or bedroom.

Venetian blinds are another popular, yet traditional style of shade that has many benefits and can be dressed up with curtains or a colourful valance. Venetian blinds are a standard horizontal slatted blind that comes in a variety of materials, including metal, plastic or wood. These cost efficient blinds are strung together by strips of cloth or thin cord, and when the cord is lifted, stack one on top of the other to slowly reveal your window and the great outdoors. The cord is then pulled on a 45 degree angle to release the slats back down. A lever can be turned to rotate the slats up and down to adjust the amount of sun light allowed in or out. When closed firmly, the slats overlap one another and have the ability to virtually black out a room, perfect for children or shift working parents. Venetian blinds are a popular staple in homes, offices and industrial organizations due to their low economic cost and wide variety they offer.

Roman shades are one of the most popular styles of window shades available and have the ability to transform any room from drab to fab. These age-old shades are easily operated and are opened with a cord mechanism, adjusting the height of the covered area. They stack evenly in elegant pleats when pulled up, and remain smooth to cover a window completely when dropped down. Window shades, such as cellular, Venetian and Roman styles, are a great design staple to accommodate any scheme or decor plan.
